About the role#
The Surreal Vision group at Meta Reality Labs is looking for PhD students to join our team as Research Scientist Interns. You will focus on building egocentric machine perception and digital twins of 3D scenes. This work supports future VR and contextual-AI-enabled AR devices. Internships last between 12 and 24 weeks with rolling start dates.
What you'll do#
- Plan and run research to advance machine perception, state estimation, and the reconstruction and rendering of 3D objects.
- Develop novel egocentric world models for action-conditioned video synthesis.
- Evaluate different egocentric input modalities, such as hand, head, eye, and body pose.
- Establish multimodal generation models including RGB video, 2D/3D flow, and depth maps.
- Curate and post-process large-scale datasets for model training.
- Investigate the impact of world models on reinforcement learning algorithms for policy learning.
- Collaborate with researchers and engineers to build prototypes for large-scale sensing and machine reasoning.
- Benchmark your results and prepare them for scientific conference submission.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a PhD in computer vision, computer graphics, 3D machine perception, or machine learning.
- Hands-on experience with 3D and projective geometry and image-space computer vision.
- Experience implementing 3D computer vision algorithms and training ML models from data collection to evaluation.
- Proficiency in Python and PyTorch.
- Experience working in a Unix environment.
- Ability to communicate and work effectively across functions in a team.
- Intent to return to your degree program after the internship.
- A track record of research in neural reconstruction, inverse rendering, neural rendering, object reconstruction, or generative modeling.
- Demonstrated software engineering experience through previous internships, work, coding competitions, or open source contributions.
- A history of significant results, such as first-authored publications, grants, or patents.
Location & details#
- Locations: Sunnyvale, CA; Redmond, WA; Burlingame, CA.
- Modality: On-site.
- Employment: Full-time internship.
- Compensation: $7,650 to $12,667 per month.
