About the role#
Meta Reality Labs is looking for a Product Design Engineering Intern to join the AI Glasses hardware team. You will work on the mechanical design and integration of compact components, balancing factors like comfort, weight, durability, and manufacturability. Under the guidance of an engineering mentor, you will contribute to a hardware project while gaining experience in cross-functional consumer product development.
What you'll do#
- Research, design, and prototype mechanical components and assemblies for AI glasses.
- Create 3D CAD models and 2D engineering drawings and participate in design reviews.
- Prepare mechanical bills of materials, engineering requirements, and design documentation.
- Assist with material selection, manufacturing process selection, and the mechanical integration of electronic components.
- Perform engineering analyses such as free-body diagrams, fit and clearance checks, weight estimates, and tolerance analysis.
- Build prototypes and test fixtures to support mechanical, thermal, and environmental testing.
- Collaborate with electrical engineering, industrial design, reliability, and manufacturing teams to iterate designs and communicate results.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor's or master's program for Mechanical Engineering, Product Design Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
- Foundational knowledge of mechanical engineering principles including statics, mechanics of materials, and material properties.
- Experience creating parts and assemblies using 3D CAD software like Siemens NX, SolidWorks, Creo, or CATIA.
- Hands-on experience building, testing, or evaluating mechanical designs through academic, student-team, or personal projects.
- Intent to return to your full-time degree program after the internship.
- Ability to obtain and maintain work authorization in the United States.
- Experience with rapid prototyping methods like 3D printing, CNC machining, or laser cutting.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes such as injection molding, die casting, or sheet metal fabrication.
- Familiarity with GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, finite-element analysis, or experimental data analysis.
- Experience with scripting or data-analysis tools like Python or MATLAB.
Location & details#
- Location: Sunnyvale, California.
- Modality: On-site.
- Employment type: Full-time intern.
- Compensation: $6,688 to $11,880 per month.
