Student - Assistant, Social Media

About the role#

This is a part-time, paid student position requiring 10 hours of work per week during the 2026-27 academic year. The role focuses on supporting the university's social media presence through content creation, event coverage, and administrative tasks. While some work is performed in an office setting, the nature of social media management requires flexibility to work out of the office and walk around campus to capture content.

What you'll do#

• Develop and post content to official university social media accounts, including Instagram, Facebook, X, Snapchat, and YouTube.
• Provide live coverage of university-run or sponsored events.
• Track and calculate monthly social media metrics, such as reach and engagement.
• Create simple images using photo editing or design software.
• Assist with writing brief stories and articles for university news.
• Perform general office duties, such as preparing media kits and running on-campus errands.
• Maintain consistent and reliable attendance.

What you'll need#

• Strong writing and verbal communication skills, including basic knowledge of AP style.
• A solid understanding of major social media platforms.
• Ownership of a quality smartphone and a willingness to use it for official university posts.
• Competency in proofreading and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
• Detail-oriented and organized approach with the ability to work independently.
• Basic graphic design knowledge is helpful.
• Ability to maintain focus in a shared office environment.
• Majors in Communications, Graphic Design, Marketing, Media Studies, or Journalism are relevant to this role.
