Associate Software Engineer (Intern / Co-Op)

About the role#

Mesh Optical Technologies is seeking an Associate Software Engineer for an internship or co-op position. You will be embedded directly within the engineering team, contributing to the codebase that operates both our optical interconnect products and factory processes. This is a paid, full-time role focused on real engineering contributions rather than side projects.

What you'll do#

• Implement and test bare-metal drivers for I²C, SPI, ADC, DMA, and other interfaces.
• Assist in node bring-up from power-on to firmware load, including capturing boot logs and debugging hardware-software interactions in the lab.
• Design and implement algorithms for link optimization and per-unit calibration using C++ and Python.
• Develop software-enabled methods to automatically validate device operation and production processes.

What you'll need#

• Pursuing or recently completed a BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field with a GPA of 3.5 or greater.
• A portfolio of hands-on projects featuring a hardware element, such as embedded firmware, robotics, signal processing, or similar builds.
• Proficiency in Python and C or C++ with comfort working in a Linux environment.
• Exposure to I²C, SPI, ADC sampling, or similar protocols.
• Strong analytical mindset, first-principles problem solving, and clear communication skills.
• Demonstrated multidisciplinary knowledge of electrical and mechanical engineering concepts.

• Compensation: $26.00 - $38.00 per hour, determined by academic year, plus a flexible monthly housing and transportation stipend.
