Mesh Optical Technologies is seeking an Associate Mechanical Engineer for an internship or co-op position. You will be embedded within the engineering team to contribute directly to the design and development of optical interconnect products and the associated manufacturing infrastructure. This is a hands-on role where you will own substantive engineering tasks.
What you'll do#
- Design and build development test platforms to characterize the thermal, optical, and electrical aspects of optical interconnect prototypes.
- Collaborate with a mentor to identify production process improvements and own rapid-prototype hardware from initial CAD design through cleanroom implementation.
- Perform finite element analysis and thermal simulations to support design validation.
- Create detailed drawings utilizing geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
- Work alongside a multidisciplinary team to develop high-volume optical manufacturing facilities.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit or recent completion of a BS or graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field with a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
- A portfolio of hands-on projects, such as Formula SAE, SolarCar, Robotics, CubeSats, or similar personal/club builds.
- Proficiency in modern CAD software and version control systems.
- Strong analytical mindset with a focus on first-principles problem solving and clear communication.
- Demonstrated aptitude in multidisciplinary engineering, including exposure to electrical and software engineering concepts.

- Compensation: $26.00 - $38.00 per hour, based on academic year, plus a monthly housing and transportation stipend.
