About the role#
This position is for a Clinical Nursing Student to work as a Patient Care Technician on the Med Surg Unit. You will gain clinical experience and exposure by shadowing Registered Nurses and providing direct patient care under their guidance. This role is designed to help you build critical thinking skills while supporting the nursing process in a hospital setting.
What you'll do#
- Provide basic patient care including hygiene, mobility assistance, feeding, and comfort measures.
- Record vital signs and participate in patient data collection.
- Act as a liaison between patients and nurses by reporting changes or concerns.
- Document patient care accurately and in a timely manner.
- Participate in hand-off reports and departmental updates.
- Perform delegated tasks once your competency is validated.
- Collaborate with the RN to develop clinical judgment and seek out educational opportunities.
- Use clinical technology and escalate concerns through the proper chain of command.
- Provide customer service to patients, families, and visitors.
What you'll need#
- High school diploma or GED.
- Currently enrolled in a nursing program.
- Completion of at least one clinical nursing course and one clinical rotation.
- Ability to communicate clearly and follow directions from the healthcare team.
- Understanding of nursing processes, patient safety standards, and infection prevention.
- A compassionate, relationship-based approach to care.
- Accountability for assigned tasks and professional conduct.
- BLS certification and recent experience in acute or long-term care are preferred.
- Familiarity with EPIC Electronic Health Record training is a plus.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, on-site position based in Cincinnati, Ohio.
- The schedule is 36 hours per week on day shifts.
