About the role#
This position is for nursing students to gain clinical experience within the Orthopedic and Oncology units at West Hospital. You will work under the guidance of a Registered Nurse to provide direct patient care, develop your clinical skills, and participate in the nursing process. This is a full-time, on-site role with a rolling term.
What you'll do#
- Support the nursing team by assisting with the application of the nursing process.
- Provide basic patient care, including monitoring vital signs, assisting with mobility, and supporting personal hygiene.
- Help patients with activities of daily living, such as feeding, hydration, and nutrition.
- Act as a liaison between patients and the nursing staff, reporting any changes in condition or concerns.
- Participate in patient hand-offs and report pertinent information to the care team.
- Document patient data accurately and use clinical technology as required.
- Collaborate with RNs to build your critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Provide customer service to patients, families, and visitors.
- Escalate clinical concerns through the appropriate chain of command.
- Perform delegated tasks once your competency is validated.
What you'll need#
- A high school diploma or GED.
- Current enrollment in a nursing program.
- Completion of at least one clinical nursing course and one clinical rotation.
- Ability to follow directions and communicate clearly with the healthcare team.
- Knowledge of patient safety standards, infection prevention, and healthcare regulations.
- Recent experience in an acute or long-term care facility is preferred.
- BLS certification and EPIC Electronic Health Record training are preferred.
