About the role#
As a Network Operations Intern, you will support the Network Operations Center (NOC) by monitoring and troubleshooting connectivity services across the North Carolina Research and Education Network. You will work directly with our engineering staff to ensure the functionality and security of MCNC facilities while providing real-time service to our clients.
What you'll do#
- Monitor and troubleshoot L3, L2, optical, and fiber-based network services.
- Field, troubleshoot, and escalate incoming trouble calls and email queries.
- Coordinate directly with vendors, telecom providers, and clients to resolve technical issues.
- Track scheduled maintenance, outages, and service inquiries using ServiceNow.
- Update client and network information in the GlobalNOC database.
- Support NOC and Network Engineering staff with daily tasks and assignments.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an Associates or Bachelor's degree program in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Basic knowledge of IP networking principles.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Aptitude for learning new technologies.
- A valid driver's license, as you may be required to operate a company vehicle.
- Preference is given to candidates with hands-on experience configuring Cisco routers and switches or performing physical wiring and cabling.

- Compensation: $17 to $19 per hour, depending on experience and education.
- Term: Rolling.
