About the role#
Mauldin & Jenkins is hiring for a Tax Accounting Intern in Houston. This is a full-time, paid position that runs on a rolling basis. You will work on-site and may be required to travel overnight as part of your assignments.
What you'll do#
You will help the team with audits, management services, and tax return preparation. Your daily tasks include:
- Assessing internal accounting controls and testing for compliance.
- Preparing financial statements.
- Investigating discrepancies in bank and subsidiary account reconciliations.
- Calculating accruals and documenting the supporting data.
- Preparing schedules for write-offs of prepaid expenses and deferred charges.
- Reviewing data input and assisting with tax preparation.
- Researching and resolving technical tax issues.
- Providing information to senior staff members to meet project deadlines.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a college program with a major or concentration in accounting.
- A solid understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and auditing standards.
- Working knowledge of federal and state income tax laws.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- A professional approach to conduct, dress, and attitude.
- A commitment to accuracy when handling information.
- Ability to develop proficiency with firm software and manuals.
- You must provide your own housing and transportation.
Location & details#
This role is located in Houston, Texas. It is a full-time internship. Overtime pay is provided for any hours worked beyond 40 per week.
