About the role#
Mauldin & Jenkins is hiring for their internship program in Covington, Louisiana. This is a paid, full-time position that offers hands-on experience in tax preparation, audits, and management services. You will work directly with senior staff members on client engagements. Please note that you must provide your own housing and transportation for the duration of this role.
What you'll do#
- Assist with the study and evaluation of internal accounting controls.
- Test compliance with internal controls.
- Prepare financial statements based on generally accepted accounting principles.
- Reconcile bank and subsidiary accounts, investigating any discrepancies found.
- Compute accruals and document the underlying support.
- Prepare schedules for write-offs of prepaid expenses and deferred charges.
- Review data input and resolve technical tax issues.
- Research and assess various tax matters.
- Provide information to senior staff members to support project completion.
- Meet deadlines for tax returns and other assigned projects.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a college degree program with a major or concentration in accounting.
- A well-rounded knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
- A working knowledge of generally accepted auditing standards.
- A working knowledge of federal and state income tax laws and regulations.
- Awareness of current developments in the accounting profession.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Professional appearance in attitude, dress, poise, and conduct.
