About the role#
Mauldin & Jenkins is hiring for our internship program in Metairie. You will work on engagements involving audits, management services, or the preparation of tax returns for clients. This is an on-site, paid role that requires you to provide your own housing and transportation. Overnight travel may be necessary.
What you'll do#
- Assist with the study, evaluation, and testing of internal accounting controls.
- Prepare financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
- Examine client reconciliations of bank and subsidiary accounts and investigate any discrepancies.
- Schedule computations of accruals and document the underlying support.
- Prepare schedules for write-offs of prepaid expenses and deferred charges.
- Review data input and assist in the review of tax preparations.
- Identify, research, and resolve technical tax issues.
- Provide information to senior staff members and meet deadlines for tax returns and assigned projects.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a college degree program with a major or concentration in accounting.
- A well-rounded knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and auditing standards.
- Working knowledge of federal and state income tax laws and regulations.
- Awareness of current developments in the accounting profession.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Professional appearance in attitude, dress, poise, and conduct.
- A habit of accuracy when dealing with numeric and alphabetic information.

- Term: Rolling.
- Compensation: Paid, with time and a half for overtime hours worked beyond 40 per week.
