About the role#
Mauldin & Jenkins is hiring an Audit Accounting Intern for our Covington, Louisiana office. This is a full-time, paid position that offers exposure to audit engagements, management services, and tax return preparation. You will work alongside our team of professionals to develop your technical skills and gain practical experience in the accounting field.
What you'll do#
- Assist with the study and evaluation of internal accounting controls.
- Test compliance with internal controls.
- Prepare financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
- Examine client reconciliations for bank and subsidiary accounts, investigating any discrepancies.
- Compute accruals and document the underlying support.
- Prepare schedules for write-offs of prepaid expenses and deferred charges.
- Review data input and assist in the review of tax preparations.
- Research and assess tax issues while resolving technical problems.
- Meet deadlines for tax returns and other assigned projects.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a college degree program with a major or concentration in accounting.
- A well-rounded knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and auditing standards.
- A working knowledge of federal and state income tax laws.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- An awareness of current developments in the accounting profession.
- A professional approach to your appearance, attitude, and conduct.
- The ability to maintain high accuracy when handling information.

- Note: You must provide your own housing and transportation for the duration of the internship. Overnight travel may be required.
