About the role#
Mauldin & Jenkins offers an internship program for students interested in audit, management services, and tax preparation. You will work on client engagements and gain experience with firm processes while building your technical skills.
What you'll do#
- Study and evaluate internal accounting controls.
- Test compliance with internal controls.
- Prepare financial statements following generally accepted accounting principles.
- Reconcile client bank accounts and investigate discrepancies.
- Reconcile subsidiary accounts to controls.
- Compute accruals and document the underlying support.
- Prepare schedules for write-offs of prepaid expenses and deferred charges.
- Review data input and assist with tax return preparation.
- Identify, research, and resolve technical tax issues.
- Provide information to senior staff members and meet project deadlines.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a college program with a major or concentration in accounting.
- Understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and auditing standards (GAAS).
- Working knowledge of federal and state income tax laws.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing and speech.
- Professional conduct, appearance, and attitude.
- High attention to detail when handling numeric and alphabetic information.

- This is a full-time, paid, on-site role located in Athens, Alabama.
- The internship term is rolling.
