About the role#
MasTec is seeking Field Engineer Interns for the summer of 2027. You will support Project Managers and Construction Managers on assigned projects. This role involves a mix of office work in Rockford, Illinois, and time spent on job sites. Please note that 100% project-specific travel is required for this position.
What you'll do#
- Perform field survey work for site layout and activity tracking using GPS equipment and PC software.
- Manage project quality control records and ensure required reporting is complete.
- Assist with planning, scheduling, and coordinating audits and inspections.
- Handle material inventory and receiving paperwork.
- Support final job closeout tasks, including as-builts and job binder creation.
- Assist with subcontractor scheduling and management.
- Prepare Request for Information (RFI) submittals.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
- Be prepared for extended work hours and weekend work when necessary.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a four-year degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Safety and Health, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum of 24 college credits completed and a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Basic understanding of the construction industry and business practices.
- Ability to work in environments with exposure to dirt, heat, and noise.
- Strong work ethic and the ability to work well within a team.
- Deadline-oriented with solid problem-solving skills.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Adaptable and willing to learn.
