    About the role#

This Ph.D. internship places doctoral candidates directly into active architecture and research efforts. You will work on systems-level problems at the boundary of research and production, where your algorithms and architectures influence how AI infrastructure performs at scale. The role involves applying academic research to production-scale constraints for hyperscale customers.

    What you'll do#

    • Architect, model, and evaluate system-level designs for switching, interconnect, or DSP applications.
    • Develop and optimize DSP algorithms for high-speed electrical or optical links, including equalization, FEC, and signal integrity techniques.
    • Design and analyze network architectures for AI fabrics, such as forwarding pipelines, congestion control, and traffic management.
    • Build behavioral models and simulations using MATLAB, Python, or C++ to evaluate performance tradeoffs.
    • Collaborate with analog, digital, and software engineering teams to validate architectural assumptions against hardware and silicon measurements.
    • Present architectural proposals and research results to engineering leadership while contributing to technical documentation and design reviews.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in a Ph.D. program in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
    • Research focus in computer architecture, digital signal processing, communications systems, or networking.
    • Demonstrated research experience in processor or switch architecture, DSP algorithm design, network protocol design, or system-level modeling.
    • Strong analytical fundamentals in signal processing theory, queuing theory, information theory, or computer architecture.
    • Proficiency in modeling and simulating complex systems using MATLAB, Python, or C/C++.
    • Ability to communicate architectural decisions and algorithm tradeoffs clearly.
    • Experience with PAM4, coherent, or high-speed serial link DSP is preferred.
    • Knowledge of Ultra Ethernet Consortium protocols, RoCE, RDMA, or open networking platforms like SONiC or P4 is a plus.
    • Familiarity with Verilog, SystemVerilog, or cycle-accurate simulation is considered an asset.

    Location & details#

    • Locations: Santa Clara, CA; Irvine, CA; Austin, TX; Burlington, VT; Westborough, MA; Westlake Village, CA.
    • Work modality: On-site.
    • Employment type: Full-time.
    • Term: Rolling.
    • Compensation: This is a paid internship.
