About the role#
The Engineering Intern Co-op reports to the Regional Lean Specialist to support the deployment, evaluation, and implementation of Lean methodologies within the Marmon Transportation Group. This role focuses on identifying process gaps and driving improvements in safety, quality, delivery, cost, and employee development. This is a development position for individuals looking to grow their leadership and operational skills.
What you'll do#
- Manage lean transformational activities and projects at the plant level.
- Collaborate with the automation team to optimize processes and build justifications for automation projects.
- Facilitate and execute Value Stream Maps and Kaizen/Impact Events through all stages, including A3 charter creation and follow-through.
- Provide formal and informal training, coaching, and mentoring to employees to ensure sustainable business improvements.
- Establish and implement performance measures, providing regular reports to track progress against plant objectives.
- Partner with site leadership to conduct assessments and participate in Management Review meetings.
- Develop personal and plant competency plans regarding continuous improvement methods.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a degree in Industrial, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, Word, SharePoint, and Smartsheets.
- Ability to lead and influence others without formal control.
- Strong initiative, energy, and the ability to work as an independent self-starter.
- Capability to build relationships and earn trust across all levels of the organization.
- Ability to travel 20-50% to other facilities and shops.
- Preferred: Experience with Lean or automation via internships, class projects, or extracurriculars, and working knowledge of CAD packages like SolidWorks or Fusion 360.
