About the role#
Lyft is hiring a Data Science Intern for the Algorithms team. This role focuses on building mathematical models that support our core platform services. You will work on problems related to optimization, prediction, inference, and transportation. You will report to a Science Manager.
What you'll do#
- Partner with Engineers and Product Managers to define problems mathematically and within a business context.
- Perform exploratory data analysis to understand data patterns.
- Write production modeling code and work with software engineers to deploy algorithms.
- Design and run simulated and live traffic experiments.
- Analyze experimental and observational data to support launch decisions.
- Present findings to partner teams.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Masters or PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Economics.
- Graduation date between December 2027 and June 2028.
- Available for a Summer 2027 internship in San Francisco.
- Proficiency in Python (required) or SQL and R.
- Experience with data science libraries such as NumPy, Scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow, and Keras.
- Background in experimental design, exploratory data analysis, and machine learning tools like SpaCy or NLTK.
- Expertise in at least one of these areas: optimization and mathematical modeling, machine learning fundamentals, or probabilistic and statistical modeling.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid internship located in San Francisco, California.
- The role follows a hybrid work schedule. You are expected to be in the office three days per week, specifically on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
