About the role#
LJA is seeking a GIS Intern for our Public Works department. This role involves analyzing spatial datasets using modern Esri web and desktop applications. You will work on water and wastewater projects, including data editing, map production, and field inspections. This is a paid, full-time, on-site internship for Summer 2027.
What you'll do#
- Map LJA projects into a GIS-managed database.
- Perform data collection and utility inspections in the field.
- Prepare exhibit maps.
- Handle data entry and database management tasks.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled in GIS courses and working towards a Bachelor degree, or a recent graduate.
- Preferred majors include Computer Science, Civil Engineering, or Environmental Engineering.
- Strong communication skills.
- Highly organized with a focus on detail.
- Good work ethic and punctuality.
- Experience with ArcGIS Pro or QGIS is preferred.
Location & details#
- Location: Chattanooga, Tennessee.
- Term: Summer 2027 (mid-May through the first week of August).
- Schedule: 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday.
- Work Modality: On-site.
