About the role#
The Facilities & Fleet Intern at Lake County Government supports the daily operations of the County’s facilities, vehicles, and equipment. This role involves 60 total hours of work and offers flexibility to tailor projects based on your interests and current County initiatives. You will work alongside the Facilities and Fleet team to learn how local government maintains the resources that support community services.
What you'll do#
- Assist with facilities maintenance, operations, and improvement projects.
- Support the inventory and organization of facilities, equipment, tools, and supplies.
- Help manage the fleet by tracking vehicle records, maintenance schedules, and inspections.
- Research and evaluate needs for vehicles, equipment, and facilities.
- Assist with preventative maintenance tracking and scheduling.
- Support facility inspections to identify operational or safety needs.
- Organize documentation and procedures for both fleet and facility operations.
- Help develop or improve tracking systems and standard operating procedures.
- Assist with space planning and facility utilization projects.
- Research best practices, vendors, and products.
- Participate in meetings regarding facility and fleet management.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in high school.
- Interest in local government, public service, or community affairs.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to conduct basic research and summarize information clearly.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise appropriate judgment.
- Ability to work independently while seeking guidance when needed.
- Ability to interact professionally with diverse stakeholders.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office or Google Workspace.
- Willingness to learn new systems, processes, and technology.
