About the role#
This is a 16-month co-op position starting in May 2027. You will assist with the concept, prototyping, design, and development of mechanical tooling to support manufacturing build processes. You will work alongside design teams and manufacturing engineers to create solutions that improve capacity, quality, and waste reduction.
What you'll do#
- Design mechanical tooling for product build, testing, and repair.
- Engage with machine shops and operations engineering teams to assemble and verify new tooling.
- Create and update 3D mechanical models in CAD programs.
- Generate assembly drawings, detail drawings, and Bills of Material for tooling projects.
- Procure parts for prototype units after design approval.
- Troubleshoot existing tools and assist with preventive maintenance.
- Use the Team Center PLM application to manage tooling documentation and commercial parts.
- Provide Design For Manufacturability input for the New Product Introduction process.
- Develop solutions to solve manufacturing build challenges.
- Create user manuals and tooling procedures.
- Coordinate with internal customers to recommend tooling requirements and meet project specifications.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Community College or University Mechanical Engineering program.
- Ability to complete a 16-month co-op term starting May 2027.
- Current enrollment and good standing with an accredited university co-op program.
- Ability to obtain Canadian Controlled Goods Program clearance.
- Knowledge of 3D CAD systems, preferably SolidWorks.
- Familiarity with GD&T, drawing standards, and mechanical design.
- Understanding of FEA for static and dynamics analysis.
- Familiarity with strength of materials, classical analysis, and materials science.
- Experience with machining, fabrication, and rapid prototyping techniques.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prepare detailed technical reports and specifications.
- Commitment to quality practices including AS9100 and ISO9001.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
