About the role#
The Machinist Intern position offers students in the manufacturing field a chance to gain hands-on experience while completing their education. This is a paid, full-time role that supports 1st or 2nd shift operations. Hours range from 15 to 40 per week and are flexible to accommodate your school schedule.
What you'll do#
- Set up and operate CNC machining centers to fabricate parts.
- Load parts, cycle machines, and detect malfunctions like worn or damaged tools.
- Run production lots and communicate with co-workers regarding production runs.
- Operate CNC Mills or Lathes using multiple pallets and work coordinated systems.
- Inspect machined products, document results, and maintain necessary paperwork.
- Analyze processes to find solutions for reducing setup and cycle times.
- Report defective materials or questionable conditions to management.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
- Assist in other areas of the shop as needed.
What you'll need#
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Current enrollment in a 1st year Machine Tool Technology or Automated Systems and Robotics program.
- Proficiency in communication and math.
- Mechanical and technical capacity.
- Ability to read blueprints and build to specifications.
- Knowledge of CNC controllers and tools.
- Prior experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
Location & details#
- Location: Minneapolis, Minnesota.
- Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: Starting pay range of $21.00 to $22.00 per hour.
- Shift Differential: 2nd shift employees receive a 20% pay increase on top of base pay.
- Physical Demands: This role involves medium work, requiring the ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and perform tasks like reaching, handling, and grasping objects throughout the shift.
