About the role#
This internship provides hands-on experience in construction management. You will work within the Bridge and Marine District to develop skills in civil, grading, utility, roadway, and structural construction. This is a full-time temporary position for the summer of 2027.
What you'll do#
- Build, estimate, and schedule construction projects.
- Support administrative and construction tasks as assigned by your supervisor.
- Review project proposals, specifications, and drawings.
- Perform material takeoffs and prepare cost estimates.
- Attend pre-bid investigation meetings.
- Learn to supervise subcontractors and coordinate with vendors.
- Prepare work plans and manage quality control.
- Track project costs, materials, and equipment schedules.
- Administer safety programs and maintain project records.
- Investigate job site problems and recommend solutions.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field.
- Ability to work full-time from May through August.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet deadlines.
- High level of organization, time management, and attention to detail.
- Commitment to ethics, integrity, and safety.
- Ability to access all areas of a construction site in various climates and environments.
- Reliable transportation to and from work.
- Ability to work without requiring sponsorship for employment.
