About the role#
Kiewit Nuclear Solutions is hiring an Electrical Designer Intern for the Summer 2027 term. This is a full-time, on-site position based in either Lenexa, Kansas, or Oak Ridge, Tennessee. You will assist in developing electrical designs, maintaining project documentation, and supporting our engineering teams on nuclear sector projects.
What you'll do#
- Develop and review 3D models and plan drawings for electrical deliverables.
- Create schematics, one-line drawings, and concept sketches based on engineering inputs.
- Model electrical components from vendor submittals and design specifications.
- Check designs for consistency, safety, operability, and maintenance requirements.
- Maintain and organize master drawing sets, revisions, and originals.
- Complete as-built documentation using RFI forms, ECNs, and red-marked drawings.
- Update electrical cable schedules and resolve comments from checked drawings.
- Report on project progress and issues to Lead Electrical Designers.
- Participate in project meetings and collaborate with design team members.
- Apply national and local engineering codes to your work.
- Support project development with various technical tasks.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an Associate’s, Vocational, or Bachelor’s degree program in Design & Drafting Technology, Engineering Technology, Design, or a related field.
- Experience with 3D software such as MicroStation, AutoCAD, Revit, AutoCAD MEP, or Navisworks.
- Ability to visualize and conceptualize in a 3D environment.
- Proficiency with spreadsheets, databases, PDF software, and email communication.
- Familiarity with the latest operating systems.
- Ability to work productively, meet deadlines, and follow oral or written instructions.
- Strong communication skills to interact professionally with team members, owners, and vendors.
- Commitment to working safely and maintaining regular, reliable attendance.
- Must be a US citizen with documentation for badge access and be able to pass a security questionnaire and background check.

- This role is located on-site in Lenexa, KS or Oak Ridge, TN.
- This is a paid, full-time internship for Summer 2027.
