About the role#
Kiewit Power Engineering is seeking an Electrical Design Intern for our Lenexa office. This full-time internship for Summer 2027 focuses on supporting our electrical and controls design projects. You will work alongside our team to maintain design standards, contribute to project success, and develop your professional skills in a construction-driven engineering environment.
What you'll do#
- Develop 3D models using drawings and sketches while checking for interferences and constructability.
- Create plan drawings, details, schematics, and one-line drawings.
- Route electrical cables to generate schedules and model electrical components based on vendor submittals.
- Maintain master drawing sets and complete as-built documentation using RFIs and ECNs.
- Report project progress and issues to Lead Electrical Designers.
- Participate in project meetings and resolve comments from design checks.
- Ensure designs meet safety, consistency, operability, and maintenance requirements.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing an Associates, Vocational, or Bachelor's degree in Design and Drafting technology, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
- Experience with 3D software such as MicroStation, AutoCAD, Revit, AutoCAD MEP, or Navisworks.
- Ability to conceptualize in a 3D environment.
- Working knowledge of spreadsheets, databases, and PDF software.
- Proficiency with email communication and electronic meeting requests.
- Ability to represent Kiewit professionally to owners, vendors, and contractors.
- Commitment to regular attendance, meeting deadlines, and following safety policies.
