About the role#
Kiewit Industrial & Water Engineering is hiring an Electrical Design Intern for the Summer 2027 term. This full-time, on-site position is based in Lenexa, Kansas. You will contribute to project success by creating design documentation, maintaining technical standards, and supporting the electrical and controls design team.
What you'll do#
- Develop 3D models and conceptual sketches based on project requirements.
- Create plan drawings, schematics, and one-line drawings from engineering markups.
- Route electrical cables to generate schedules and model electrical components using vendor submittals.
- Check 3D models for interferences and constructability.
- Update master drawing sets and complete as-built documentation using RFI forms and ECNs.
- Review designs for safety, consistency, operability, and maintenance requirements.
- Report project progress and issues to Lead Electrical Designers.
- Participate in project meetings and resolve checked drawings.
- Apply national and local engineering codes to your work.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing an Associates, Vocational, or Bachelor's degree in Design & Drafting Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
- Basic experience with 3D programs such as MicroStation, AutoCAD, Revit, AutoCAD MEP, or Navisworks.
- Ability to conceptualize in a 3D environment.
- Working knowledge of spreadsheets, databases, and PDF software.
- Proficiency with email and electronic meeting requests.
- Ability to represent the company professionally to vendors, contractors, and owners.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Commitment to working safely and meeting deadlines.
- Regular and reliable attendance, including the ability to work overtime or weekends if required.
