About the role#
KENT WORLDWIDE is looking for a Process Engineer Intern for the summer of 2027. This position is based in our cat litter facility in Muscatine, Iowa. You will work on-site as part of a full-time, paid internship.
What you'll do#
- Assist the technical team to increase production capacity and flexibility while controlling costs and maintaining quality.
- Troubleshoot and resolve process issues by working directly with the operations team.
- Learn process flows and production specifications to improve efficiency.
- Monitor operations data and help implement corrective actions.
- Develop systems to track and optimize productivity, performance metrics, and asset returns.
- Identify ways to reduce waste and production inefficiencies.
- Create manufacturing documentation like process flow charts, time and motion studies, standard work, and line balancing.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams for project direction.
- Ensure all work complies with health and safety regulations, including OSHA and EPA requirements.
- Travel up to 10% of the time for training or meetings.
- Lift 32-pound bags of litter on an infrequent basis.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Mechanical or Chemical Engineering degree program.
- Completion of at least two semesters of engineering coursework.
- Interest in lean manufacturing principles.
- Proficiency with analytical tools, process balancing, and workflow time studies.
- Computer literacy skills.
- Ability to create and update standard operating procedures and process flows.
- Previous internship or co-op experience in a manufacturing or operations environment is strongly preferred.
