About the role#
The Visual Communications Intern supports the daily operations of the Visual Communications Department facilities. This role involves assisting with equipment management, technical support, and creative projects under the direction of the Program Chair. This is a paid, full-time position with a rolling term.
What you'll do#
- Assist students with the check-in and check-out process for department equipment.
- Perform maintenance and repairs on photographic equipment and seek external technical assistance when necessary.
- Create graphic design materials, such as posters, and provide photography support upon request.
- Support the gallery team with the setup and tear-down of exhibitions.
- Provide technical and user support for classroom IT and instructional equipment in a professional manner.
- Enforce safety procedures and maintain security for department equipment.
- Assist with clerical tasks and the physical movement of equipment as assigned.
- Offer suggestions to improve the efficiency of print lab and studio operations.
What you'll need#
- Knowledge of graphic design, photography, and studio operations.
- Proficiency with current hardware and software technology.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to provide support in person, over the phone, or via email.
- Good customer service and organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain professional relationships and handle sensitive data with discretion.
- Physical capability to climb ladders and repeatedly lift up to 30 pounds.
- Enrollment in a Technical Certificate, Associate degree, or higher program is preferred.
Location & details#
- Location: Columbus, Indiana.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Occasional night or weekend hours may be requested for department events such as gallery shows or conventions.
