About the role#
Ironmark Building Company is hiring a Construction Estimating Intern for the Summer 2027 term. This role supports the Preconstruction team in Minneapolis by evaluating project documents, developing estimates, and soliciting subcontractor pricing. You will gain hands-on experience in how projects are priced and pursued from the early stages. While this is primarily an office position, you may visit jobsites or gain exposure to field operations as opportunities arise.
What you'll do#
- Assist with project setup and the organization of bid documents.
- Review and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Perform quantity takeoffs using Bluebeam and On-Screen Takeoff.
- Solicit bids from subcontractors and vendors.
- Track bid coverage and follow up with bidders.
- Compare subcontractor and vendor proposals.
- Assist with bid leveling and identify scope gaps.
- Support estimate assembly and bid strategy.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and estimate reviews.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a 4-year Construction program.
- Basic knowledge of construction technology, equipment, and methods.
- Understanding of industry practices and standards.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Ability to perform math calculations including algebra and geometry.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to present information clearly.
- A proactive approach and a desire to learn.
- Access to reliable transportation.
- Fluency in English for reading, writing, and speaking.
