About the role#
The Operations Intern role offers hands-on experience in mining and industrial operations. You will work alongside leadership and technical teams at our site in Wedron, Illinois. This program lasts 10 to 12 weeks during the summer of 2027. You will contribute to projects that support business performance and site sustainability while learning about our core operational standards.
What you'll do#
- Learn and follow safety principles, including MSHA regulations, industrial hygiene, and PPE requirements.
- Shadow the Long Range Mine Planner and Mine Supervisor to understand drilling, blasting, haulage, surveying, and sampling.
- Work with the Operations Manager and Production Supervisors on wet processing, drying, screening, loading, quality control, and data management.
- Assist the Environmental Health and Safety team with permitting, regulatory reporting, and reclamation efforts.
- Partner with the Maintenance and Purchasing teams to learn about preventative maintenance, scheduling, and equipment procurement.
- Help salaried staff solve technical problems and complete assigned projects.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited university pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Chemical, or Mining Engineering.
- Junior or Senior standing.
- An interest in mining, manufacturing, or industrial environments.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and the ability to work well in a team.
- A willingness to work in field and industrial settings.
- Prior internship, project, or field experience in engineering or operations is preferred.
- A strong safety mindset and commitment to operational excellence.
