About the role#
As a Manufacturing Engineer intern, you will report to the Manager of Arc Vehicle Integration and Test. You will build, integrate, and test critical subsystems for the Arc hypersonic reentry vehicle. This role involves transitioning designs from the engineering team to the integration floor, improving build sequences, and developing assembly procedures. You will work alongside design engineers and technicians to troubleshoot hardware in real-time and ensure flight hardware meets quality and schedule milestones.
What you'll do#
- Develop and improve manufacturing and assembly processes for mechanical and electromechanical systems.
- Create and maintain work instructions, process documentation, and assembly procedures.
- Identify ways to improve manufacturing efficiency, quality, safety, and repeatability.
- Review component and assembly designs with the Design Engineering team to ensure manufacturability and serviceability.
- Provide feedback on manufacturing constraints, tooling requirements, and assembly considerations during design reviews.
- Support the transition of engineering designs into executable manufacturing processes.
- Work with technicians and engineers to support hardware assembly, integration, and troubleshooting.
- Identify root causes of manufacturing issues and implement corrective actions.
- Analyze manufacturing data to support engineering decisions and process improvements.
- Design, build, and proof-load assembly fixtures, tooling, and ground support equipment using CAD.
What you'll need#
- Standing as a rising senior in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Experience authoring detailed assembly procedures, managing build configurations, and driving floor execution.
- Experience designing tooling, fixtures, or ground support equipment in CAD, such as Siemens NX.
- Proficiency in applying standard GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with spacecraft, launch vehicle, or high-reliability aerospace hardware assembly is preferred.
- Familiarity with aerospace cleaning, bonding preparations, and cleanroom operations.
- Knowledge of high-pressure fluid systems, pyrotechnics installation, flight avionics harnessing, or Thermal Protection System manufacturing processes.
Location & details#
- This internship takes place in Playa Vista, California.
- The role is on-site and full-time for Summer 2027.
- This position is paid, with an hourly rate between $38 and $41.
- Due to ITAR regulations, this position requires U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residency, or protected individual status.
