About the role#
As an Engineering intern, you will support our Design Services team through hands-on experience in industrial electrical design and construction. You will work alongside experienced professionals on active projects, gaining insight into business operations, project management, and safety. This role includes travel to job sites or our shop to work directly with craft and manufacturing teams.
What you'll do#
- Collect and review project data to define scope.
- Record design decisions in internal software like InterTrak.
- Create electrical drawings using 2D and 3D drafting software, including AutoCAD and Revit.
- Communicate project updates to team members and clients.
- Perform discipline-specific tasks, such as power system modeling, Arc Flash analysis, or designing automation control panels.
- Develop 3D BIM models and constructible plans for prefabrication and installation.
- Evaluate P&IDs to validate device requirements and select industrial control devices.
- Gather field information to support the design-build process.
- Promote the Interstates brand and ensure compliance with organizational policies.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an engineering degree program or a drafting degree from a technical college.
- Between 0 and 4 years of electrical experience or education.
- Strong verbal, written, and listening communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a team and coordinate with superintendents, engineers, estimators, and customers.
- An interest in manufacturing, industrial, and electrical systems.
