About the role#
The International Rescue Committee in Atlanta offers an internship for students or recent graduates interested in immigration services. This role supports the resettlement office by assisting refugees and asylees with the immigration application process, including travel documents, permanent residency, and citizenship. This is an unpaid, on-site internship.
What you'll do#
- Conduct comprehensive intake and needs assessments for clients.
- Assist clients in completing applications for immigration benefits and prepare them for review by legal staff.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date files and detailed case notes while entering data into databases.
- Prepare responses for I-485 Requests for Evidence (RFE).
- Assist with Citizenship Workshops and help maintain the immigration petition filing system.
- Refer complicated cases to caseworkers and manage service requests.
- Perform administrative tasks such as making copies, creating new files, and completing change of address forms.
What you'll need#
- Interest and experience with USCIS forms is preferred.
- Ability to work independently and under pressure with multiple tasks and competing deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and high level of organization.
- Ability to commit to 3 days per week (9:00 AM to 5:00 PM) for at least 3 consecutive months.
- Proficiency with PC systems.
- Bilingual skills in client languages, such as Spanish, Arabic, Farsi, or French, are beneficial.
- Must be at least 18 years old and pass a background check.
