    About the role#

    The International Rescue Committee in Atlanta offers an internship for students or recent graduates interested in immigration services. This role supports refugees and asylees as they navigate the process of becoming permanent residents and citizens of the United States. This is an unpaid, in-person position reporting to the Legal Assistant for Immigration Core Services.

    What you'll do#

    • Conduct comprehensive intake and needs assessments for clients.
    • Assist clients in completing applications for various immigration benefits.
    • Prepare responses for I-485 Requests for Evidence.
    • Maintain accurate files, detailed case notes, and enter data into databases.
    • Support legal staff by creating new files and making copies.
    • Assist in Citizenship Workshops and help maintain the office filing system.
    • Refer complicated cases to caseworkers for follow-up.

    What you'll need#

    • Commitment of 15 hours per week for at least 3 consecutive months, specifically 3 days a week from 9-5.
    • Ability to work independently and under pressure with multiple tasks.
    • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
    • Interest and experience with USCIS forms.
    • Proficiency with PC systems.
    • Ability to pass a background check and must be at least 18 years old.
    • Preferred majors include Political Science, International Relations, Public Health, Sociology, or Human Resources.
    • Fluency in languages such as Spanish, Arabic, Farsi, or French is beneficial.

    • Location: Atlanta, Georgia.
    • Term: Fall 2026, beginning the week of September 8th, 2026.
    • Modality: On-site.
