The Immigration Intern supports the International Rescue Committee’s resettlement office in Atlanta. This role assists refugees and newly approved asylees with the immigration application process, helping them navigate the steps required to travel, obtain permanent residency, and pursue U.S. citizenship. This is an unpaid, on-site internship for the Fall 2026 term.
What you'll do#
- Conduct comprehensive intake interviews and needs assessments for clients.
- Assist clients in completing applications for immigration benefits and prepare them for review by legal staff.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date case files and detailed notes while meeting reporting deadlines.
- Prepare responses for I-485 Requests for Evidence (RFE).
- Support clients in drafting responses for missed or rescheduled USCIS interviews.
- Assist in the coordination and execution of Citizenship Workshops.
- Perform administrative tasks including filing, data entry, and managing service requests.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment or recent graduation in Political Science, International Relations, Public Health, Sociology, or Human Resources.
- Experience or demonstrated interest in working with USCIS forms.
- Ability to work independently and maintain high performance under pressure.
- Strong organizational skills and strict attention to detail.
- Ability to commit to a schedule of 3 days per week, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
- Proficiency in a second language such as Spanish, Arabic, Farsi, or French is considered an asset.
Location & details#
- Location: Atlanta, Georgia (On-site).
- Term: Fall 2026.
- Commitment: Minimum 15 hours per week for at least 3 consecutive months.
- Compensation: This is an unpaid internship.
- Requirements: Applicants must be at least 18 years old and authorized to work in the United States. Please note that sponsorship for work authorization is not available.
