About the role#
The Inter-American Development Bank is seeking an active graduate student for the Winter 2027 Internship Program. This is a paid, full-time, on-site opportunity based at our headquarters in Washington, D.C. You will gain professional experience by contributing to research and design initiatives focused on the integration of artificial intelligence within public budgeting.
What you'll do#
- Conduct literature reviews and synthesize knowledge on the application of artificial intelligence in budgeting, including academic papers and policy reports.
- Identify and document practical AI use cases for budget preparation, expenditure monitoring, forecasting, and service delivery.
- Analyze the experience of a selected country in adopting AI tools for budgeting, focusing on institutional frameworks and implementation approaches.
- Contribute to the design of initiatives related to AI and budgeting in Latin America and the Caribbean.
- Prepare analytical materials and present your findings and outputs.
What you'll need#
- Active enrollment as a graduate student in Economics, Public Policy, or Public Administration.
- Completion of at least 50% of your coursework at the time of application.
- Fluency in English, with knowledge of Spanish, French, or Portuguese considered an asset.
- Strong research and analytical skills, including the ability to organize and analyze quantitative and qualitative data.
- Knowledge of artificial intelligence concepts and machine learning applications.
- Citizenship from an IDB member country.
- Status as a first-time participant in an IDB Group internship program.

- Term: Winter 2027 (January 16th to March 15th, 2027).
