About the role#
Join Insomniac Games as a Concept Art Intern for Summer 2027. You will work within our development team to create artwork that shapes the characters, environments, and visual direction of our games. You will receive one-on-one mentorship from senior members of the X-Dev team and have direct access to our in-house Concept team to help you grow your artistic and technical skills.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with the internal Concept Team to create thumbnails, sketches, reference sheets, and production paintings.
- Develop visual concepts for characters, creatures, environments, and props to guide production.
- Apply artistic principles including design, perspective, composition, color theory, lighting, and anatomy.
- Translate imaginative ideas into visual explanations that support the game development pipeline.
- Create content that helps define quality targets for game assets.
- Work with Art Directors and other team members to refine concepts.
- Use 2D art skills while exploring 3D techniques for concept development.
- Participate in development meetings to learn how cross-functional teams build AAA games.
- Manage assigned projects and deadlines while incorporating feedback.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor degree in a related field at an accredited university.
- Strong 2D artistic skills and a solid grasp of foundational art principles.
- Ability to apply design, lighting, and visual balance to your work.
- Creative problem-solving skills and the ability to translate ideas into visual concepts.
- Strong communication skills and a willingness to receive direction.
- A self-motivated and responsible approach to your work.
- Ability to manage tasks and meet deadlines in a team environment.
- Passion for video games and art.
- 3D experience is a strong plus.

- Location: Burbank, California.
- Term: Summer 2027 (12-week period).
- Modality: Hybrid.
- Employment: Full-time and paid at $36.50 per hour.
- Eligibility: Must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship. Relocation assistance is available for eligible candidates.
