Development Intern – Summer 2026

About the role#

Illumination is seeking a Development Intern for the Summer 2026 term. This role supports the Development team in the creative business of filmmaking, focusing on script coverage, IP research, and talent scouting. This is a paid, full-time position.

What you'll do#

• Read and provide coverage for scripts, books, and other incoming materials.
• Identify and research potential IP, including graphic novels, mobile apps, video games, and movie remakes.
• Curate and distribute a weekly newsletter of research findings.
• Assist in scouting for comedic and visual talent and contribute to targeted writer lists.
• Update and organize department databases.
• Participate in select development meetings, including daily competitive round-ups.
• Provide administrative support, including note-taking, deck creation, and desk coverage.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in a College or University.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
• A strong passion for the animation industry and an interest in development.
• Preferred majors include Film, Writing, English, Communications, or Media Studies.
• Availability to work 40 hours per week for the 8-week duration.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States without company visa sponsorship.

Location & details#

• Location: Santa Monica, California.
• Work Modality: This position requires working on-site at the Santa Monica studio 4 days per week (Monday through Thursday) with 1 day of remote work (Friday).
• No relocation assistance is provided.
