About the role#
Idaho National Laboratory is hiring an intern to support the Infrastructure Transformation Program. You will research and preserve historical site infrastructure by reviewing original construction plans from early US Navy and National Reactor Testing Station operations. This role focuses on documenting former building sites and utilities while digitizing historical materials for long-term access.
What you'll do#
- Research original construction plans dating from 1943 to 2005.
- Locate and identify building sites and underground utilities that are decommissioned, abandoned, or no longer visible.
- Interpret civil engineering drawings to understand the original installation of utilities and buildings.
- Scan and upload historical drawings into the Electronic Document Management System.
- Work with team members to validate findings and ensure documentation accuracy.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as an undergraduate student in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
- A minimum overall GPA of 3.0.
- Authorization to work in the U.S., including CPT or OPT.
- Ability to provide a resume, unofficial transcripts, and current class schedule.
Location & details#
- This is a paid, part-time, on-site internship for Fall 2026.
- The role is based at the Idaho Falls campus, with required travel between INL facilities.
- The team follows a 9x80 work schedule.
- Pay ranges from $29.39 to $32.41 per hour.
- You may be eligible for course credit and travel reimbursement.
- You must be able to lift 25 pounds and perform tasks in an office environment.
