About the role#
The Retail Human Resources Internship at Hy-Vee provides hands-on experience within a retail environment. Over the course of this 10-week program, you will work alongside an experienced management team to gain practical skills in recruiting, employee relations, and store operations.
What you'll do#
- Complete the Retail Human Resources Activity Book.
- Support the hiring process, including interviewing, placement, and conducting new employee orientations.
- Assist with employee performance reviews, relations issues, benefits, and wage-related matters.
- Coordinate employee transfers and learn effective recruiting and retention programs.
- Help with scheduling, honoring time-off requests, and arranging coverage.
- Handle customer complaints and provide follow-up.
- Deliver customer service by assisting with product location and needs.
- Attend weekly staff meetings and assistant manager meetings.
- Answer phone calls and manage confidential employee records with discretion.
- Maintain compliance with company policies and dress code.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or Psychology.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
- Skill in building relationships and interacting in a professional manner.
- Ability to use logical thinking to solve problems.
- Comfort working with computer systems.
