About the role#
The Wireless Automation and Test team at HP IQ validates and characterizes wireless subsystems across our products and services. This role sits at the intersection of hardware, software, and data analytics. You will help ensure wireless applications communicate correctly with underlying systems, conduct quality assurance on wireless software, and build testing platforms for current and next-generation systems. You will contribute directly to product validation and shipping readiness.
What you'll do#
Your work will span three technical areas depending on your background and interests:
- Data Analytics: Develop automated processes to compile and clean test data. Build portals for clear, on-demand data representation. Formulate mathematical models to flag performance trends and support data-driven analysis of wireless performance.
- Software: Analyze logs, validate system decisions, and identify timing issues between networking events. Work with protocols like HTTP and TCP/IP. Contribute to log parsing automation and validate full-stack protocol behavior.
- Hardware: Use lab equipment such as spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, power meters, and network analyzers. Characterize RF behavior and automate measurements through scripting.
What you'll need#
- Current student pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
- Strong foundational knowledge in at least one of these areas: wireless fundamentals and RF concepts, networking protocols (HTTP, TCP/IP), or statistical analysis and data science.
- Demonstrated ability to debug systems, analyze data, or troubleshoot problems in academic or hobby projects.
- Experience with low-level scripting or basic automation (Python, Bash, PowerShell, or similar).
- Hands-on experience with laboratory instrumentation such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, or power meters.
- Familiarity with network protocol standards and troubleshooting networking issues.
- Experience parsing or analyzing log files from complex systems.
- Exposure to agentic systems, autonomous agents, or machine learning applications in testing contexts.
- Experience in product validation, quality assurance, or testing in hardware or embedded systems environments.
- Ability to communicate clearly, adjust work priorities, and work independently as a self-directed learner.
Location & details#
- Location: San Francisco, California.
- Term: Summer 2027 (May/June through August/September).
- Modality: On-site.
- Status: Full-time internship.
- Compensation: Paid position.
