About the role#
Hitachi Rail is looking for a Co-op in Component Engineering to join our team in Pittsburgh. This role involves working across engineering, quality, procurement, and manufacturing departments to manage component lifecycles and supply chain risks. You will gain hands-on experience in urban transit systems and support hardware engineering teams.
What you'll do#
- Establish and maintain component engineering processes.
- Manage component obsolescence by using tools such as SAP, Teamcenter, and IHS.
- Review design bills of materials and conduct lifecycle analysis for parts.
- Address Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and End of Life component issues.
- Collaborate with R&D to find alternative technical solutions that reduce supply chain risk.
- Develop engineering documentation and suggest testing strategies for requalification.
- Implement design changes and report on component-related problems.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a sophomore in an Electrical or Electronic engineering program.
- Completed coursework in electronics.
- Strong technical skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks at once.
- Proficiency in English with clear verbal and written communication skills.
- Aptitude for collaborating with various stakeholders.
Location & details#
- This position is based on-site in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
- This is a paid, part-time co-op role.
- The schedule consists of either three 15-week rotations or two six-month rotations.
