About the role#
Highland Animal Hospital offers a DVM externship program for students looking to gain practical experience in a small animal practice. This program is designed to help you build confidence and clinical skills during your veterinary education. You will work alongside our veterinary team and receive mentorship throughout your rotation. We provide a stipend of $250 per week.
What you'll do#
Under the supervision of a mentor doctor, you will participate in daily patient care. Your responsibilities include:
- Gathering patient histories
- Performing physical examinations
- Developing diagnostic and therapeutic plans
- Scrubbing in to surgery
- Assisting in the management of medical cases
- Providing wellness care
- Developing client communication skills
- Polishing technical skills
- Producing medical records (SOAPs)
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited DVM program
- Authorization to work in the United States
- Professional liability insurance
