About the role#
We are looking for a Substation Intern to join our Power Delivery team in Raleigh. You will work under the direction of project managers and engineers on a variety of substation projects. This role offers the chance to gain experience in both protection and control and physical high voltage substation design.
What you'll do#
- Prepare engineering designs, drawings, calculations, analyses, and reports for electrical substations.
- Develop design deliverables including one-line diagrams, protection and control schematics, wiring diagrams, SCADA schemes, and communications plans.
- Create substation physical layouts, material lists, conduit and cable routing, and AC/DC systems calculations.
- Work alongside designers and CADD technicians to develop drawings based on project requirements.
- Produce design sketches and redline drawings.
- Visit sites during the design, construction, and as-built project phases.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate engineering program, specifically pursuing a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and attention to detail skills.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- A commitment to our employee-owned culture.

- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Preference is given to local candidates.
- Helpful experience includes AutoCAD, MicroStation, prior substation design work, or experience with an electric utility.

- This position is based on-site in Raleigh, North Carolina.
- This is a paid, full-time internship.
