About the role#
HDR is seeking a Power Systems Engineering Intern for the Fall 2026 term. Based in our Sacramento, California office, you will support electrical engineering design projects focused on power generation and substations. You will work alongside licensed engineers, technicians, and engineers in training to gain practical experience in the field. This is a paid, full-time, on-site position.
What you'll do#
- Assist in conducting analyses to develop electrical design options or recommendations.
- Help prepare cost estimates, reports, design plans, and specifications.
- Work on projects with clear, specified objectives and limited variables.
- Apply standard engineering techniques and procedures while using computer modeling software for electrical system analysis.
- Perform assignments under the direct supervision of a professional, Project Manager, or Electrical EIT.
- Connect with company leaders and recent graduates through mentoring and young professionals programs.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program, specifically Electrical Engineering.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills with high attention to detail.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- A commitment to participating in our employee-owned culture.
- Preference is given to candidates with at least two years of degree progress and a 3.0 or higher GPA.
- Familiarity with industry-related software packages such as ETAP and SKM is preferred.
