About the role#
HDR is hiring a Mechanical Engineering Intern to join our team in Ann Arbor, Michigan. This role offers hands-on experience working on power generation and distribution projects, including combined and simple cycle power, steam and chilled water systems, and water treatment facilities. You will work under the direct supervision of professional engineers and project managers to support the design and consulting process for various plant systems.
What you'll do#
- Perform engineering calculations and conduct code reviews.
- Size and select materials and equipment for project needs.
- Develop piping and instrument diagrams, as well as equipment and piping arrangement drawings.
- Create procurement and construction specifications.
- Participate in site visits and facility surveys.
- Evaluate existing systems and equipment.
- Perform bid evaluations and communicate with equipment vendors.
- Write technical reports and participate in team meetings.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate engineering program.
- At least two years completed toward a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and attention to detail skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- A commitment to participating in our employee-owned culture.
- Preferred: Previous internship or coursework in power and energy.
- Preferred: 3.0 GPA.
- Demonstrated knowledge of field-related software and experience with CAD programs like AutoCAD or Microstation.
