About the role#
HDR is hiring an Environmental Intern for the Summer 2027 term. This position is based in Tampa, Florida, and requires on-site work. You will support our environmental team with fieldwork, data analysis, and reporting for civil engineering projects. This role offers hands-on experience in environmental compliance, permitting, and sustainability practices.
What you'll do#
- Assist with environmental site assessments and field investigations, such as soil, water, and air sampling.
- Prepare environmental reports, including Phase I/II ESA, wetland delineations, and habitat assessments.
- Collect and organize data for regulatory compliance regarding stormwater, erosion control, and endangered species.
- Create GIS maps and perform spatial analysis for environmental constraints.
- Inspect construction sites to verify adherence to environmental regulations.
- Research local, state, and federal regulations relevant to civil engineering.
- Collaborate with scientists and engineers on sustainable design solutions.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program for biology, environmental engineering, or a related field.
- Basic skills in Microsoft Office and a commitment to our employee-owned culture.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
- Preference is given to candidates who have completed at least two years of their degree with a 3.0+ GPA.
- Demonstrated knowledge of ArcGIS is preferred.
- Local candidates are preferred for this position.
