About the role#
HDR is hiring a Cultural Resources/Archeology Intern for the Summer 2027 term. This paid internship provides students with practical experience in cultural resource management. You will work on projects involving archaeological survey, eligibility testing, and data recovery, alongside associated lab work and reporting. The position involves significant field time, including travel for extended periods both in and out of state.
What you'll do#
- Assist with archeological field and reporting tasks, including desktop evaluations, surveys, data entry, and curation.
- Support project archeologists and crew chiefs with daily operations.
- Document cultural resources by completing field forms, creating sketch maps, using GPS units, and photographing sites.
- Help develop educational and public outreach programs.
- Work under the supervision of Section Managers and Cultural Resource Specialists.
- Connect with company leaders and recent graduates through mentoring and professional programs.
- Perform physically demanding field tasks in adverse environmental conditions, including walking up to 6 miles per day on uneven ground.
- Lift up to 25 pounds without assistance.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program in Archaeology, Anthropology, Architectural History, or a related field.
- At least two years of degree progress completed with a 3.0 or higher GPA.
- Completion of an accredited field school.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with basic Microsoft Office tools.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- A valid driver's license and the ability to operate a vehicle at any time of day.
- A commitment to participating in an employee-owned culture.
