About the role#
As an Electrical Distribution Systems Intern at Harbinger, you will help design, develop, and validate wiring harnesses and distribution systems for our vehicle platforms. You will work alongside electrical and mechanical engineers to handle 3D routing, 2D documentation, and component selection for low-voltage vehicle networks. This role involves moving designs from CAD environments to physical vehicle prototypes.
What you'll do#
- Design and develop vehicle electrical wiring harnesses and distribution systems.
- Select connectors and subcomponents to meet system requirements and industry standards.
- Create detailed 2D and 3D EDS designs using tools like CATIA, Siemens NX, or equivalent software.
- Develop and maintain wiring schematics, routing layouts, and BOMs.
- Ensure compliance with electrical standards like ISO and SAE.
- Collaborate with hardware, software, and mechanical engineering teams.
- Perform tolerance analysis, routing feasibility studies, and virtual or physical mockups.
- Lead validation and testing of electrical systems, including DV/PV testing and troubleshooting.
- Interface with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of components.
- Support manufacturing and service teams during the build process and with field issue resolution.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Strong knowledge of automotive electrical systems, wiring harness architecture, and connector technologies.
- Hands-on skills with multimeter and oscilloscope diagnostics, wire crimping, soldering, and bench testing.
- Experience with 3D CAD software for mechanical design, electrical routing, or packaging.
- Ability to take charge of problems in a startup environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Active participation in collegiate design competitions such as Formula SAE, Baja SAE, or Solar Car with a focus on electrical integration.
- Previous internship or project experience in automotive, aerospace, or robotics.
- Familiarity with electrical schematic architecture or harness design tools like Capital or VeSys.
- Experience building, repairing, or troubleshooting automotive wiring harnesses.
Location & details#
- Location: Garden Grove, California.
- Term: Winter 2027 (January 11 to April 30 or January 11 to March 12).
- Modality: On-site, 40 hours per week.
- Compensation: $25-35 USD per hour.
- Relocation: A $1,000 stipend is available for those residing more than 50 miles from the facility.
