About the role#
The Central Development Laboratory at the Green Bank Observatory seeks electrical engineering and computer science students to join our research teams. You will work on instrumentation technology for next generation radio telescopes. Depending on your background and interests, you will collaborate with teams focused on digital design, receivers, antennas, and spectrum measurement. This role provides an opportunity to learn professional engineering design practices and experience how technology supports scientific exploration.
What you'll do#
- Perform digital circuit design, implementation, and testing.
- Develop and test FPGA programming.
- Work on RF circuit design, implementation, and testing.
- Develop signal processing algorithms.
- Test and evaluate millimeter-wave receivers, antennas, and electromagnetic structures.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a four-year accredited university majoring in electrical engineering or computer science.
- Completion of at least one year of undergraduate studies.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Ability to work on-site.

- Compensation: Paid position with an hourly rate between $17 and $22.
- Relocation: Travel reimbursements up to $900 are available for qualifying expenses. Housing assistance or stipends are not provided.
