ENGINEERING INTERN

About the role#

Gerdau North America is seeking an Engineering Intern for a 12 to 16-month term at our Whitby Metals Recycling location. This role supports the Engineering Department by providing technical coordination for operating and capital expense management processes. You will report to a senior member of the engineering team and work on projects that involve technical studies, oversight, and cross-functional collaboration with internal stakeholders and external vendors.

What you'll do#

• Provide technical support for operating and capital expense management processes.
• Develop and refine engineering procedures and implement new technology.
• Create and update blueprints using AutoCAD for facility additions, installations, and maintenance repairs.
• Conduct technical studies to support CAPEX investments.
• Coordinate the implementation of approved projects across locations in Canada and the United States.
• Assist with data collection, interpretation, and project documentation using EPM and MS Project software.
• Participate in technical committee benchmarking and the development of annual action plans.

What you'll need#

• Currently enrolled in a university degree program (Mechanical Engineering preferred) with at least two years completed.
• Minimum GPA of 3.0.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and other engineering software.
• Valid Canadian passport and willingness to travel as required.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
• Previous project management experience is considered a strong asset.
• Legal authorization to work full-time in Canada without sponsorship.
