    About the role#

    The Data Engineering team at General Motors creates software to manage how vehicle data is recorded. As a co-op student, you will work on the configuration files that define the Control and Data planes for our vehicles. This role involves building pipelines, automating verification workflows, and analyzing data logs to improve system performance. You will join the EXCEL program, which provides hands-on experience through networking and innovation projects.

    What you'll do#

    • Develop and maintain configuration files for vehicle Control and Data planes.
    • Design and maintain software pipelines to verify the integrity of configuration parameters.
    • Build tools to ingest, manage, and release data recording configuration files.
    • Create workflows for automated parameter verification.
    • Maintain records of configuration files, including parameter definitions and system impacts.
    • Support CI/CD and DevOps initiatives for testing and software release.
    • Analyze vehicle data logs to identify discrepancies and optimize performance.
    • Contribute to the improvement of data recording and analytics software.

    What you'll need#

    • Enrollment in a university co-op program pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Data Science, or Data Engineering.
    • Ability to work full time (40 hours per week) for a term of 8 or 12 months starting in January 2027.
    • Proficiency in Python, Java, or C/C++.
    • Legal entitlement to work in Canada.
    • Understanding of software development principles and best practices.
    • Experience with GitHub, GitHub Actions, and workflow automation.
    • Knowledge of logging, data processing, and cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure.
    • Familiarity with embedded software development and CI/CD pipelines.
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

    Location & details#

    • Locations: Markham, Ontario and Oshawa, Ontario.
    • Modality: Hybrid (requires reporting to the office at least three times per week).
    • Term: Winter 2027.
    • Employment: Full time, paid position.
