As an Intern, you'll be exposed to various engineering activities with the support of our senior staff. This program grants our trainees the opportunity to develop valuable skills and dive into cutting-edge projects such as leading the Columbia Class design and enhancing Virginia Class submarines. Every intern will be exposed to a wealth of knowledge in order to excel in the engineering domain. This program requires a minimum commitment of 8 weeks during the Summer 2027 Season. Participation in this program requires medical screening, passing a drug test, and potential DOD Investigation This is not a remote opportunity. All applicants have the potential to be placed at any of the following locations: Groton CT, New London CT, North Kingstown RI, Newport RI, North Stonington CT. SSN Electrical Engineering and Design – Summer Internship Job Description: The SSN Electrical Engineering and Design Directorate’s mission is to develop high quality integrated electrical design solutions for the Navy by planning and executing our work, critically assessing our performance, and incorporating learning opportunities into future projects:Constructively collaborate across functional disciplines to ensure integrated design solutionsAccurately forecast and schedule work for effective allocation of resourcesEffectively manage work execution to deliver quality products in accordance with schedule and budgetEfficiently develop, acquire, and transfer knowledge to become a self-sustaining learning organization The work performed within the SSN Electrical Engineering and Design Directorate covers a wide range of responsibility across multiple submarine classes, including VIRGINIA, COLUMBIA, and future submarine platforms. Critical work areas include system and software development, electrical design products, supplier management, new construction, and commissioned ship support.  SSN Electrical Engineering and Design Summer Interns may be responsible for the following tasks:Implementation of systems engineering across a variety of electrical systems, electrical and electronic components, and software applications. Detailed design, development, qualification, and ship integration of major submarine electrical and electronic systems.Engagements with various suppliers to ensure electrical system and component requirements and specifications are being met.Software architecture design, development, and test for electrical systems.Implementation of unique cybersecurity requirements for shipboard electrical systems.Network security administration for air-gapped/standalone development environments.Development of electric plant designs and technology innovations for the next generation of fast attack submarines.Engagement directly with electrical designer and construction trades to implement new designs or resolve electrical system design construction issues. Please note: Due to the high volume of applications received, our current process does not involve interviews.     Qualifications: Must be 18 years of age or older.US citizenship is required.Must be able to successfully pass a medically supervised drug screen and background check.Must be enrolled full-time at a college or universityAt minimum students must have completed their Freshman year prior to the start of the internship.Must be available to work 40 hours per week for a minimum eight (8) consecutive weeks between May 2027 to September 2027.Selected candidates will be responsible for establishing housing and reliable transportation for the duration of their intern assignment.Pursuing a Bachelor or Masters of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Network Administration, Security, Cybersecurity, Biomedical Engineering and Energy Systems Engineering.

    Skills: Effective written and verbal communication skillsAbility to effectively work both independently and as part of a teamAbility to learn new skills and apply themAbility to solve problems in a constructive mannerStrong interpersonal skills   Proficient with MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Office)
